Thinking of taking up a new hobby? Perhaps playing a brass instrument isn't the first thing that comes to mind, but it's surprisingly joyful and incredibly rewarding! You'll discover a fun, social, and genuinely buzzy way to spend your time, learning a challenging new skill that's also wonderfully life-enhancing and entertaining for everyone involved.
Are you local to Heathfield and looking to make some music? Have you ever thought about picking up a brass instrument, or perhaps dusting off one you played years ago?
The Heathfield Silver Band, a vibrant part of your local community since 1888, is putting out a heartfelt call for new members! Like many brass bands across England, we're feeling the pinch with fewer new players coming through, but we're actively working to keep this wonderful tradition alive right here in Heathfield.
For Absolute Beginners and Those Wanting to Learn:
Join the Training Band! If you've always wanted to learn a brass instrument, or just need to brush up on some rusty skills, our training band meets every Tuesday evening at 6:45 PM in our band room in Alexandra Road, Heathfield.
No Experience Necessary: With brass lessons no longer a standard part of the school curriculum, we're here to fill that gap! We can teach you everything needed to learn to read music and play an instrument from scratch, helping to boost any child's confidence and musical ability.
Family-Friendly: In the past, entire families have joined and learned together, creating wonderful shared experiences. This is a fantastic opportunity for parents and children to embark on a musical journey side-by-side.
For Experienced (or Rusty!) Brass Players:
Come to the Main Band! If you've played a brass instrument before – whether it was yesterday or decades ago – the Heathfield Silver Band would love for you to come and give it a go. We are always looking for players to bolster our numbers.
Friendly Community: This is a welcoming and supportive community band that rehearses every Tuesday evening from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM in our dedicated band room in Heathfield.
Why Join a Brass Band?
As the recent BBC Breakfast segment highlighted, brass bands offer so much more than just music:
Community and Friendship: Become part of a friendly, supportive group and make new friends.
Mental and Physical Benefits: Playing a brass instrument can improve lung capacity, breath control, and provides a fantastic mental workout, reducing stress and boosting well-being.
Preserving a Tradition: Help keep a vital piece of English cultural heritage alive for future generations.
Performance Opportunities: From local fetes and concerts to Remembrance Sunday and Bonfire celebrations, the Heathfield Silver Band is active in the community, providing exciting opportunities to perform.
Don't let this incredible local tradition fade away. If you're interested in making music, learning a new skill, or reconnecting with an old one, your local community (and your lungs!) will thank you for it.
Ready to Give it a Go?
Come along on Tuesday, July 15th or 22nd, at 6:45 PM to our training band session.
